The Great DLC Uprising of AoE3

The Age of Empires III Definitive Edition community was a peaceful, albeit passionate, realm—until the fateful announcement. A cryptic developer post read:

"We regret to inform you that the much-anticipated Danish and Polish DLCs have been canceled."

No warning. No explanations. Just heartbreak.

At first, there was silence. A stunned, collective disbelief swept across the fanbase like a cavalry charge breaking through a vulnerable infantry line. But then, as if a dam had burst, chaos erupted.

Discord: The Battlefield

In the largest AoE3 Discord server, Warchiefs United, players abandoned strategy discussions to form an impromptu war council.

“This is treason! I had a whole strat ready for Danish naval dominance!” shouted one player.

A moderator named PikemanPat chimed in, “Forget balance! I was finally gonna meme on everyone with Winged Hussars backed by cheesy Polish artillery!”

Memes flooded the server:

  • A picture of a sad Longbowman captioned: "Guess I'll just go home..."
  • A Danish flag with the text: "Press F to invade."
  • A crying Wojtek the bear with "They took our DLC, but they can't take our dreams."

Reddit: The Siege Engine

Over on Reddit, the r/AgeOfEmpires subreddit transformed into a virtual protest ground.

  • One user penned a 3,000-word essay titled "The Tragedy of Missing Factions: Why AoE3 Will Never Be the Same."
  • Another posted a pixel-perfect recreation of the Danish and Polish flags in the AoE3 map editor, calling it “The only way we’ll see them now.”

The upvotes skyrocketed, as did the complaints. “We’ll fund the DLC ourselves if we have to!” declared a comment that mysteriously earned gold, silver, and platinum awards.

YouTube: The Catapult

The YouTube front wasn’t quiet either. Content creators released videos with dramatic titles like:

  • "AOE3 DE IS DEAD (And Here's Why)."
  • "We Were Promised Denmark! A Fan's Betrayal."
  • "Poland and Denmark: Gone, But Never Forgotten."

One particularly dedicated YouTuber filmed a mock funeral for the DLCs, complete with a dirge played by a bagpiper in AoE3's Scottish campaign.

The Developer Response

Cornered by the relentless assault, the developers broke their silence during a live-streamed Q&A session. The chat was pure anarchy:

  • "WHERE IS MY HUSSAR??"
  • "I SPENT MONTHS LEARNING DANISH HISTORY FOR THIS!"
  • "You think we’ll let this slide? Think again!"

A nervous developer attempted to explain, “It’s not canceled, just… delayed indefinitely due to technical challenges.”

“Delayed indefinitely?!” roared a streamer, live-reacting to the session. “That’s code for ‘never!’”

The Plot Twist

Just when it seemed like the fanbase might storm the developers’ headquarters with pitchforks and trebuchets, an unexpected tweet appeared:

"Fine. You win. Danish and Polish DLC coming soon. Pre-order now."

Turns out, the announcement had been a marketing experiment gone terribly wrong.

The DLC launched a month later to record-breaking sales, and the community celebrated with 1v1s featuring Polish Winged Hussars obliterating Danish naval forces.

But the scars remained. And to this day, if you whisper "delayed indefinitely" in the AoE3 servers, you’ll hear a collective shudder from players who survived The Great DLC Uprising.
